Over the last few days, Mt Kenya region has been the talk of the town across the country and has featured in all breaking news in regards to 2022 presidential race. All has been attributed by the former Prime Minster, Raila Odinga, warm reception in the region.
After years of demonizing Raila and portraying him as a pork in Mecca, the regions seems to be slowly accepting that they were lied on who Raila really is.
This puts the other leading presidential candidate William Ruto on a hard rock on whether to continue banking on the region or to extend his generosity to other regions in pursuit of the majority votes come 2022.
Although William Ruto stands a good chance to sweep the mountain with the ‘kumi kumi’ agreement betrayed by President Uhuru Kenyatta, he still has a huge task ahead of him to convince people of the mountain on his commitment to protect Mt Kenya people interests both in government and business wise.
The Deputy President William Ruto, will also have to convince the people of Mt Kenya that he has no bad blood with them and cleanse himself from the YK92 atrocities, 2007/2008 post-election violence, his role in rejection of revenue sharing formula by Irungu Kangata and opposing Building Bridges Initiative which sought to bring to an end to oppression in representation and allocation of revenue.
Former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga is capitalizing on Deputy President past to woe Mt Kenya region people to his side. Recently he has been captured citing how BBI would have protected the interests of Mt Kenya and also provided room for equitable sharing of revenue and representation. All this is working against the Deputy President William Ruto who celebrated the downfall of BBI.
As different teams continue to play their high level politics in the mountain, whether the region will roar support Raila Odinga or William Ruto is still hard to tell.
