Kirinyaga residents finally have a sigh of relief after the county’s first referral hospital opened its doors on Tuesday this week upon being launched by President William Ruto, his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua and Governor Anne Waiguru.
The hospital, which has been under construction for the last couple of years, is a one stop hospital where Kirinyaga residents will be receiving all medical services under a single roof.
It is also part of the Kirinyaga Governor, Anne Waiguru who is serving in her second term, county’s development blueprint dubbed, Mountain Cities 2032, which seeks to establish Kirinyaga Central sub county as the city of wellness.
The hospital’s new complex boasts of a 341 bed capacity while the old hospital bed capacity has been increased by 91 beds. All the beds in the new complex have been fixed with oxygen to help patients who might develop breathing challenges during their stay in the hospital.
In addition to the 341 bed capacity, the new complex has 12 High Dependency Unit beds and 12 Intensive Care Unit beds for patients who need critical care.
The oncology centre at the hospital has also been improved with now a capacity of 15 patients per day while the newborn unit has a capacity of 40 cribs.
Patients who have been scheduled for surgeries will no longer have to wait as the new modern complex has 4 operation theatres making the referral hospital have a total of seven theatres for major surgeries.
The hospital also has a modern diagnostic centre equipped with imaging scans among other modern laboratory equipment for proper ailments diagnosis.
The Facility is managed through hospital management which is more cost effective, keeps track of the patient history and allows easy monitoring of supplies and inventory.
