Why Kenyans should ignore Prophet Owour claims of having cured tens of patients from HIV & Aids.

Details of patients being cured HIV & Aids by a controversial prophet Owour have recently emerged in Kenya social platforms.

The allegedly miraculous healing narrative has been for the past few deals being advanced in an offensive social media campaign by some of his followers through twitter hashtags.

According to the social media campaigns, the controversial pastor has allegedly healed over 20 people who had previously tested HIV & Aids positive.

This is not the first time controversial men of cloth are getting entangled in claims of healing people suffering from HIV & Aids. In 2006, the mother to the famous bishop Victor Kanyari, Prophetess Lucy Nduta, of Salvation Healing Ministry was arrested for extorting money from patients with claims of healing them. A patient was required to pay a certain amount of money before the prophetess prayed for them. Later they would be taken to local clinics by church elders where they would be give false HIV negative results. After the arrest, she was prosecuted and jailed for two years by a Nairobi court.

Late last year, the National Syndemic Disease Control Council released a statement warning religious organizations of deceiving Kenyans on their ability to cure HIV & Aids. According to NSDCC, such claims may reduce the uptake of Anti-Retroviral medications which helps in reducing the viral load in HIV& Aids patients.

HIV & AIDS Treatment.

Though there is no permanent cure that has been developed to date, diagnosed patients are subjected to Anti-Retroviral treatment which helps eradicate the viral load. The ARTs work by targeting different stages of the disease cycle and suppressing it thus slowing progression of aids.

Generally, the HIV virus targets body immunity cells commonly known as T Cells and killing them, this weakens the body immunity giving other opportunistic infections a room for attacking the already compromised individual.

Patients are also at a high risk of suffering from several types of cancers which include Kaposi’s Sarcoma, Lung cancer, liver cancer, cervical cancer, leukemia and lymphoma. Patients are advised to frequently visit do cancer screening.

Coincidental HIV Treatment.

Despite there being no complete treatment of HIV & Aids across the world, scientists are exploring other treatment options which include and not limited to stem cells transplants.

This is after five patients who were being treated of cancer through bone marrow transplant and were HIV & Aids positive ended up being HIV negative.

Scientists are however reluctant to start treating HIV & Aids through bone marrow and stem cells transplants due to complexity of the process and the high risk of death.
