Reigning Kenya Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia FC took a huge leap towards clinching their 21st league title after defeating Shabana FC 1-0 at the Mamboleo Stadium in Kisumu.
Gor created the first clear-cut chance in the 24th minute, with their in-form striker Benson Omalla being awarded a penalty after a foul play in the box. The youngster however failed to convert, sending his shot wide off the goal.
Omalla continued to cause problems for the Shabana defense, and his persistence paid off in the 34th minute. The 22-year-old forward latched onto a through ball and calmly slotted it past the Shabana goalkeeper to give Gor Mahia the only goal of the match.
With this win, Gor Mahia have extended their lead at the top of the KPL table ahead of Police FC and Tusker, and are now just two games away from securing their 21st league title. Benson Omalla’s goal also sees him extend his lead in the race for the KPL Golden Boot, with 15 goals to his name so far this season.
