Daniel Muthiani, a Meru County-based blogger went missing in early December and his decomposing body was found dumped in a river and scorched with acid.
The ardent critic of the Meru County governor fondly referred to as Sniper due to his political activism in Meru County was allegedly lured to his death trap by someone known to him.
According to his wife’s statement, the deceased received a call from someone who claimed had the potential to link him up with the Meru County Governor, Kawira Mwangaza. He, however, requested sniper that they first meet before proceeding with their meeting with the governor.
All this time, Daniel Muthiani was in communication with his wife until close to midnight when her calls went unanswered.
A missing person report was filed only for the decomposing body of the deceased to be retrieved from a river in Meru County.
The Chief Government pathologist was called to the Marimanti Level mortuary for a postmortem which revealed that Daniel Muthiani died as a result of strangulation on the neck. He also had some signs of asphyxiation.
His arms had been broken and there were no signs of self-defence, an indication that he might have been subdued before meeting his untimely death.
Police are now in pursuit of the murderers with preliminary reports pointing towards a politically motivated murder case.
Family, members of the community and bloggers from across the country are calling upon the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to expedite the investigations and the culprits to book.
