Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has found himself at the center of a political storm during a burial ceremony in Siaya County, where Raila Odinga was in attendance. The DP faced criticism from several attendees, including the Siaya County Governor, James Orengo, who made a scathing attack on Gachagua’s political career and his ties to the Mau Mau movement.
During his speech, Governor Orengo asked the mourners whether the Deputy President really looks like a Mau Mau fighter. Orengo then went on to cite leaders such as Martha Karua and Raila Odinga, whom he considers to have the spirit of Mau Mau, insinuating that Gachagua does not embody the same values.
Orengo further stated that the Deputy President is a home guard and looks like he is from Rift Valley rather than Mt Kenya. He implied that this is the reason why Gachagua is fighting against Mt Kenya leaders, including retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.
