State Department for Citizen Services under Ministry of Interior scorecard released by CS Kithure Kindiki.
One of the ministry of Interior and Administration departments has released its score card highlighting its achievements for the last three months.
In a press statement released by the Cabinet Secretary, Prof Kithure Kindiki, he highlighted the achievements by the Directorate of Immigration Services, approval of citizenship applications, civil registrations and registrations of persons directorates.
According to the statement, professor Kithure Kindiki has approved 1698 applications for citizenship which have been pending since 2018. Out of the 1698 applications, 808 were from Kenyans living in Diaspora who had renounced their citizenships before the promulgation of the 2010 constitution since the old constitution had no provision for dual citizenship. Another 815 applications were from children and spouses of Kenya citizens while 75 applications were from residents who had fulfilled all the constitutional requirements for them to be registered as Kenya’s citizens.
Kindiki also stated that he has ordered the directorate of Immigration Services to expedite the process of making decisions on all applications for work permits, permanent residency and citizenship in the next three weeks.
On Civil Registrations and Registrations of Persons, the Cabinet Secretary outlined the plans in place to move registration of births and deaths online in line with President Ruto agenda of digitizing government services. He hinted that the ministry has initiated a policy framework to guide the digitizing process.
Professor Kithure Kindiki also confirmed resumption of issuance of passports at Nyayo House. Issuance of passports had temporarily stopped after the printing machine broke down a couple of months ago. Kindiki assured Kenyans that the printing machine is now functional and the government has enough booklets for the next six months.
