Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has hit out at some of the clubs players for faking injuries, suggesting that some of those who are currently unavailable could actually play.
The Red Devils have endured a torrid season under manager Eric Ten Hag, with the Dutchman reportedly being at risk of losing his job as a result. Ten Hag’s side has been ravaged by lots of injuries, and was missing a host of top players on Sunday during their 1-0 loss to Arsenal at Old Trafford. The club’s captain Bruno Fernandes, striker Marcus Rashford, defender Lisandro Martinez among others were a not on the team sheet.
Speaking on Sky Sports during the post match interview, Rooney dropped a brutally frank assessment, reasoning that some of Man United’s injured players could potentially be 100 percent fit.
“As we look at the injuries they’ve picked up, some of those players can play. Some of those players can play, 100 per cent,” said Rooney
“Some of these players have to look at themselves because when your manager is doing an interview and talking about attitudes not being right to play for Manchester United, that is a massive insult,” he added.
The Manchester United all-time leading top scorer further opined that some players are ‘just trying to get to the end of the season’, and that there are some very good players in that squad whose performances are way below par.
Manchester United currently sits in 8th place on the Premier League table with 54 points. The Red Devils will look to improve their league position from the remaining matches this season, as they face Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion. After their Premier League fixtures, Manchester United will turn their attention to the FA Cup final, where they will take on rivals Manchester City on May 25th, 2024.
