Fresh push for One Man One Vote One Shilling emerge from Mt Kenya leaders.
Months after the popular initiative duped Bridging Bridges Initiative, BBI, was thwarted by the judiciary, Mt Kenya legislators have started a fresh push to see some of the recommendations of BBI such as more allocation of resources to the region and equalization on representation in parliament implemented.
A section of Mt Kenya leaders who were speaking during a church service in Juja argued that the only way Kenya can achieve national unity is by sharing resources equitably and by ensuring resources are being allocated as per population and not land mass.
Juja MP, George Koimburi, who is elected on a United Democratic Alliance argued that if One Man One Vote One-shilling proposal will not be implemented, Members of Parliament be allowed to use whichever amount they want to use on bursaries from their CDF instead of the current capping which stands at 35%.
Muranga County Women Rep, Betty N Maina, echoed the need to implement one Man One One Shilling. She argued that Mt Kenya region is disadvantaged by the current revenue sharing formula despite the region being contributing the highest percentage in the GDP.
Gatundu North MP, Elijah Njoroge, compared Ruiru constituency which one of the most populated constituencies in Kenya with Fafi constituency which is the least populated constituency in the country but they receive the same allocation for CDF.
