The National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) has intensified relief food distribution in partnership with the National Steering Committee on Drought Response as the drought situation in the country escalates.
While NDMA is a public entity under the Ministry of East Africa Community, ASALs and Regional Development, tasked with drought risk management in the country, the National Steering Committee on Drought Response is a private-led committee aimed at mobilizing resources to reduce the impact of drought in the country by appealing for help from corporates and people of goodwill.
Over the weekend, more than 1,000 households in Lafey Constituency in Mandera received relief food from NDMA and the National Steering Committee on Drought Mitigation, eliciting joy from the beneficiaries.
Similarly, in Marsabit, County Member of National Assembly Naomi Waqo joined local authorities and NDMA officials to distribute food to residents of Kubidibayo in Saku constituency on Monday.
In Turkana Central, National Government Administrative Officers in liaison with NDMA and the National Steering Committee on Drought Response, led by Safaricom, Redcross, and Equity Bank, distributed packages of relief food to residents of Turkana Central.
NDMA Chief Executive Officer who was accompanying Lamu County Governor in Lamu County during flagging off of a continent of relief food meant for the people of Hindi; highlighted Cabinet Secretary of East African Community, ASALs and Regional Development, CS Rebecca Miano, commitments to mobilize resources for mitigation of the current drought crisis in the country.
Beneficiaries of the relief food distribution program across the country received a package consisting of 3Kgs of Uji flour, Maize flour, 8Kgs of rice, 3Kgs of Beans, 1Kg of Cooking fat, and 1Kg of salt.
