Wahome wa Matinga is the third Senator for Nyeri County, He was elected on a United Democratic Alliance Party in the 2022 general election. He managed to trounce Kabando wa Kabando of NARC Kenya Party and Priscilla Nyokabi of Jubilee Party.
His predecessor was Ephraim Maina Kirinyaga who abandoned the senate seat for the gubernatorial seat but lost to the incumbent Mutahi Kahiga.
Wahome Wamatinga was born and raised in Mathira Constituency Nyeri County. His mother used to work as a house manager and his father as a Shamba Boy in a white family based in Karen. The parents were not allowed to stay with their children and the young Wahome wa Matinga together with his siblings had to be raised by their grandmother.
The Senator sat for his A Levels in 1985 and later joined Railways School in 1986. Later in 1995, close family members, friends and villagers raised money for him to go to Germany to further his studies. At Germany, he enrolled at the Essen University for a Bachelor of Science Course in Software Engineering.
Immediately after completing studies in 2000, he secured employment at IBM Groupware Company and he could not come back to Kenya. Four years later, he resigned and repatriated to the country to campaign for the late Nderitu Gachagua who was seeking the Mathira Constituency Member of Parliament Seat.
Wahome Wamatinga was one of the Mt Kenya politicians behind the scenes in the formation of GNU Party, TNA Party and the United Democratic Alliance Party.
In 2013, he campaigned for the late Nderitu Gachagua to clinch the Nyeri County Gubernatorial Seat on a GNU party ticket and he was successful. The governor however suffered from Pancreatic Cancer and lost his cancer battle during his first term.
In 2017, Wahome wa Matinga viciously campaigned for the current Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who was then seeking the seat of Mathira Member of Parliament. After election of Rigathi Gachagua, he was elected as the Mathira Constituency CDF manager. A position that brought him many troubles with the previous regime. Among the troubles he was part of is implication in a 7.4 billion scandal that was being pursued against Rigathi Gachagua.
Following what he termed to as political persecution, he opted to run for Nyeri County Senatorial Seat on a United Democratic Alliance Party and he was one of the six peace leaders to be elected on UDA party in the County.
Wahome Wamtinga now serves in the Senate as the Chair of energy and Water Committees.
