Background
Wanjiku Muhia is a Kenyan politician and the current Member of Parliament of Kipipiri Constituency after she trounced the incumbent Amos Kimunya who was vying on a Jubilee Party ticket. She vied on a United Democratic Alliance Party ticket of President William Samoei Ruto.
Previously, she served as the first Women Representative of Nyandarua County and as a Member of East Africa Legislative Assembly.
Wanjiku Muhia Early Life and Education
Wanjiku Muhia was born and raised in Nyandarua County. She attended early primary school education at Kamahia primary school where she did her CPE exams and later on joined Nakuru High School for her O Levels.
She graduated with a Diploma in Human Resource Management from the University of Nairobi in 2009 after a three years rigorous training. Later in 2012, she joined Kenya Methodist University for a degree in Business Administration and was conferred the honors in 2015.
In 2015, she enrolled for Masters course in Business Administration at the University of Sunderland in the United Kingdom. She graduated from the university in 2017. Wanjiku Muhia has also gone through intensive training in development and managing change in a dynamic world from Havard Kennedy School in the United States of America.
Career and Politics
She started her career journey in late 90s when he secured a slot at the Florensis Kenya ltd as an Administrator. She served at the company from 1998 to 2003. In 2006, she was appointed as the Regional Customer Service Director for Equity Bank.
In 2013, she was elected as the Women Representative of Nyandarua County. A position she held for five years until 2017 when she was ousted by the current Women Representative Faith Gitau. She was however lucky to be nominated as a Member of the East Africa Legislative Assembly by Jubilee Party.
In 2022, she contested for Kipipiri Member of Parliament position on a United Democratic Alliance Party ticket and won. She ousted the incumbent, Amos Kimunya who was vying on a Jubilee Party ticket.
While at EALA, Wanjiku Muhia served in different committees such as Legal Rules and Privileges Committee, Accounts Committee, budget committee, agriculture tourism and Natural resources committee. She also served as a commissioner at the East Africa Legislative Assembly.
In the 13th parliament she is a member of Administration and National Security Committee and Regional Integration Committee. She also a member of Kenya Women Parliamentarians and Kenya Disabled Parliamentarians.
One of her major achievements in parliament was pushing for amendment of People Living with Disabilities Act of 2013 to compel TV stations to include signs and language interpreter in news bulletin and issues of national interest.
