Background
James Kamau Murango is Kirinyaga County third senator after Daniel Karaba and Charles Kibiru who served for a single term respectively. He was elected on the United Democratic Alliance Party after an I intensive campaign during the 2022 general election.
Early Life & Education of Kamau Murango
Kamau Murango was born and raised in Kirinyaga Central, Kirinyaga County where he was enrolled for his early education at Kiandieri Primary School and later on attended secondary school at unnamed school.
He later joined Technical University of Mombasa where he studied Plant Engineering. The senator also holds a Business Management certification from the Kenya Institute of Management, Material Handling and Advanced Equipment from Sweden based University, Project Management and Planning from a University in Miami United States and Master’s Degree in Economics and Portfolio Management.
Career and Politics
Before joining politics in 2017, James Kamau Murango had accumulated vast experience for ten years in engineering and plant operations.
In 2017, he joined politics and was elected as a member of the county assembly of Kirinyaga representing Kerugoya ward on Jubilee Party ticket upon which he was made the leader of the majority in the county assembly.
He also served as the Chairperson of the Selection Committee and a member of Budget and Appropriation Committee, Finance and Economic Planning Committee, Marketing and ICT committee, Environment, Water and Natural Resources Committee, Transport, Roads and Public Works Committee, Agriculture Committee and County Assembly Business Committee.
During his tenure as the majority leader of Kirinyaga County Assembly, the county assembly attempted to overthrow the governor but Senate declined to okay the impeachment citing insufficient evidence on the allegations that had been leveled against Anne Waiguru.
After the impeachment failed, James Murango together with a section of Members of County Assembly joined hands with the governor and supported her reelection through the United Democratic Alliance Party.
They also staged an intensive campaign in support of the then Deputy President and now President William Samoei Ruto.
Kamau Murango Senate Committee
In the senate, Kirinyaga senator was elected as the chairperson of Agriculture, Livestock and fisheries committee deputized by Alex Mundigi of Embu County.
