John Peneninah Methu is the second senator of Nyandarua County elected on a United Democratic Alliance Party in 2022. He previously contested for the same seat in 2017 on Maendeleo Chap Chap Party ticket of Alfred Mutua but he did not marshal enough votes to make him the senator.
John Methu Early Life and Education
He was born in 1991 in Laikipia County and is now aged 31 years making him one of the youngest senators in the republic of Kenya. Unfortunately, two months after his birth, the parents separated and her mother had to take him to his grandmother in Heni Nyandarua County where he grew up.
For many years, John Peninah Methu, grew up thinking that the grandmother was his real mother. He would refer to his real mother as Auntie Njeri and appreciate her for bringing him clothes and other goodies.
He only met his biological father once while in form four. His sister who used to work in Nyahururu showed him his father from a distance who was in a group of other men. He did not have another chance to meet him for he died in 2011.
John Peninah Methu attended his early education at Heni Primary School between 1999 and 2006 where he sat for KCPE and excelled. He joined Secondary School in 2008 and sat for KCSE exam in 2012 at Goshen High School.
In 2013, he joined Pwani University to study Political Science after his family led by his late grandmother, close family members, the church and villagers raised money for him to advance his education.
While at the University, he bought a pool table with HELB money and engaged in several other businesses to support his stay at the University.
Career and Politics
He graduated in 2017 and after the graduation, he pursued his lack in politics by vying for Nyandarua County Senatorial seat but he was not lucky to win the seat.
Between 2018 and 2022, he worked as the Personal Secretary to the Speaker of the County Assembly of Nyandarua. He resigned in 2022 to pursue his dream of becoming the Senator of Nyandarua County.
In the senate, he serves as the chair of lands, environment and natural resources committee. He is deputized by the Samburu Senator Steve Lelegwe.
