Government has continued to distribute relief food across the country despite the heavy rainfall which is being experienced in some parts.
According to the Ministry of East African Community Cabinet Secretary, the government will continue to offer relief food to families that have been hugely affected by the drought until they stabilize.
Cabinet Secretary Miano was speaking Isiolo County while assessing the drought and flooding situation in Duse, Kinna and Rapsu areas of Garbatulla Sub County.
During her visit to the Isiolo County, CS Rebecca Miano also donated relief food in the aforementioned areas as part of the second phase of relief food distribution which was launched yesterday in Marsabit County and it is targeting over 3500 households.
CS Rebecca Miano was accompanied by the Director of Special Programmes, Isaac Githui, the Chief Executive Office of National Drought Mitigation Authority, Haren Hassan, and the Deputy County Commissioner for Garbatulla, Mr Stephen Nyakundi.
The National Steering Committee on Drought Response was also in Moyale where they were distributing relief food targeting 1500 households.
Households that will benefit from the second phase of relief food distribution will be taking home a 22Kg hamper of assorted food items.
The government has been offering relief food to people affected by the drought in partnership with National Drought Mitigation Authority and National Steering Committee on Drought Response. Other bodies like the world food programme under USAID have been very resourceful in mitigating the drought situation.
