Ruto aid phone was hacked by an Israeli hacker in the run up to 2022 general election that William Ruto emerged the winner.
Months after William Ruto was declared the duly elected President of the Republic of Kenya, it has emerged that Israeli hackers tapped his close allies/strategists and aides’ phones.
The damning and shocking details were exposed by a consortium of journalists from 30 media outs across the world.
One of the hackers who claims to be the head of an Israeli based hackers group boasted of how they have influenced over 30 elections across the world through automated social media disinformation campaigns. The hackers group claimed to have more than 30,000 social media accounts which they use for automated disinformation campaigns.
The hacker who identified himself as Tal Hanan met with journalists from the over 30 media outlets carrying out the investigation in different places namely Tel Aviv, Paris and London. The journalists posed as political consultants in order to get information from the hacking group named Team Jorge.
During the meets up, Hanan illustrated to the journalists how to gain access to targets telegram and email accounts through a technique called Spear Phishing. According to Hanan, the technique involves sending an email with a malicious link or an attachment and once the target clicks on the link or the attachment, the hackers gain access to targets device without him/her knowing.
It is during one of the meets up with the journalists masquerading as political consultants that Hanan hinted that they had hacked into a phone device of an assistant of an important guy in the just concluded general election. Hanan showed the journalists a Gmail and telegram account of the alleged assistant to an important guy.
Tal Hanan also explained how they gain access to their targets accounts without necessarily hacking the phone.
In a video that has been uploaded on YouTube by Zein Online, one of Team George hacking group members illustrated how they gained access to chats and calls of a close ally of President Ruto before the general election. The ally whose name has not been disclosed is now a cabinet secretary.
