Background
Robert Gichimu is the Member of Parliament for the Gichugu Constituency serving for a second term after he was reelected in 2022 general election. The member of Parliament vied for the Gichugu constituency seat in 2017 and was elected on a Jubilee Party ticket. In the run up to 2022, he resigned from the party and joined United Democratic Alliance Party headed by the then Deputy President William Samoei Ruto.
In 2017, he unseated the former Member of Parliament for Gichugu, Njogu Barua, who had been elected in 2013 through The National Alliance Party.
Robert Gichimu Early Life & Education
Gichimu was born in Gichugu Constituency, Kirinyaga County and was enrolled at Mugumo Primary School for his early education. He was later transferred to Nceme Primary School located in Igembe South, Meru County where he sat for his Kenya Certification of Primary Education in 1989.
In 1990 he joined Meru school where he studied for four years and sat for the Kenya Certification of Secondary Education in 1993 and performed extremely well.
Two years later, he enrolled for a Bachelor of Laws degree at the University of Nairobi which took him four years to complete. He later joined Kenya School of Government for his Post Graduate Diploma in law and passed the bar exams. He was admitted as the advocate of the High Court of Kenya on 12th April 2001.
Law Career & Politics
Immediately after being admitted as an advocate of the high court, he secured a slot to practice in the former Martha Karua and Company Advocates until 2002. While at Martha Karua and Company Advocates he was engaged in commercial law litigation, debt collection, conveyance, family law, criminal law practice and general practice.
Between 2002 and 2003, Robert Gichimu served as an associate advocate at Mutua Mboya and Company Advocate. He later joined Anne W Kimani and Company Advocates in 2004 until 2006.
In 2007, he founded Gichimu Mungatana and Company Advocate together with his core Principal Partner Dennis Mungatana Mwanzia. He remained active in the law firm until 2017 when he was elected as the Member of Parliament for Gichugu Constituency.
Apart from being an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, Robert Gichimu is a Certified Public Secretary of Kenya.
In his first term as the Member of Parliament of Gichugu Constituency, Gichimu served in several parliamentary committees named; Trade Industry and Cooperatives Committee, Delegated Legislation Committee and Justice & Legal Affairs Committee.
