National Transport and Safety Authority, the body mandated with managing transport sector and road safety in the country has rolled out high tech new generation number plates.
NTSA rolled out the new number plates in an event that was presided by the Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Interior, Cs Fred Matiangi, PS Karanja Kibicho, CS Joe Mucheru, CS Macharia and NTSA Board members.
The high tech new generation number plates will be fitted with chips and will also bear the Kenyan flag.
High tech Number plates chips will be loaded with: chase number, vehicle make, type, engine, colour, mode of transmission, date and place of manufacture, owner details and insurance validity.
Current vehicle owners are expected to change their number plates to the new high tech plates in the next 18 months failure to which strict measures will be taken against them by NTSA.
Car owners will part with Ksh 3000 for the new number plates while motorcycle owners will pay Ksh 15OO for the same.
The new tech was rolled out today by NTSA in collaboration with the ministry of Interior, ICT and Transport aide in curbing car theft and hijacking in the country.
Those who will be going for the latest KDK number plates will purchase plates which have already been fitted with the new generation number plates.
