A Mozambique based pastor has died after fasting for 25 days. The deceased is said to have been targeting 40 days like those Jesus fasted while in the wilderness.
The pastor who has been identified as Francisco Barajah was aged 39 years. He died after 25 days of no food and water as he tried to emulate 40 days of Jesus in the wilderness with no food or water.
According to one of the leading international media houses that covered the story, Francisco Barajah was the founder of Santa Trindade Evangelical Church and also a teacher in Messica. When not in school teaching French, he used to minister at the church he founded.
Francisco was rushed to the hospital after his health deteriorated by close family members and a section of his followers at the church.
At the hospital, medics diagnosed him with acute anaemia and some of his body organs had started to fail. His weight had also reduced to a point that he could not stand on his own.
Attempts by doctors to rehydrate him with serum and liquid food bore no fruits. The pastor was pronounced dead just a few minutes after he was rushed to the hospital.
One of his sibling, Marques Manuel, has however disputed claims that his brother died of fasting for too long. Maeques Manuel has maintained that his brother died as a result of low blood pressure.
His followers at Santa Trindade Evangelical Church told the press that it was common for him to fast but not for that long.
