Quack doctor Mugo wa Wairimu was earlier today sentenced to a 33 years jail term after being found guilty of 10 counts out of 12 counts that he had been charged with. The quack doctor will however serve a jail term of 29 years since he had already stayed in police custody for three years.

Fake Doctor Mugo wa Wairimu first came into the public limelight following a Citizen TV Kenya exposure in the year 2015/2014. Citizen TV Journalist Evelyn Wairimu did an exposure documentary on Mugo wa Wairimu who was then running Prestige Healthcare Clinic in Githurai 44.

The documentary by Citizen showed a sedated woman lying on a bench and a man believed to be the fake doctor undressing and later on trying to penetrate and sexually assaulting the sedated woman.

Following the exposure, Mugo wa Wairimu was arrested in 2015 and was later on released on bail as the case proceeded in court. A woman using a coded name ABC in Milimani Law Courts accused the convict of sexually assaulting him.

Months later, Mugo wa Wairimu announced his comeback through Facebook. The fake doctor claimed that he is back with huge bhang.

In 2018, the rogue quack doctor was once again arrested by the then flying squad after being on the run for close to two weeks. DCI sleuths were on his radar for close to two weeks where he was being followed as he sought hideouts in different locations including Makuyu, Thika and Kiambu before he was arrested in Gachie where he had been hiding in a relative house.

Mugo went on the run after he was informed of the arrest of his two junior employees. The two junior employees who were working as an intern and a receptionist were arrested by Flying Squad Officers who had been accompanied by the then Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Union CEO Daniel Yumbia at the Kayole Clinic.

After the arrest, it emerged that the quack doctor used to sedate women who visited his clinic seeking medical services before assaulting them sexually.

On 29th October 2020, Senior Resident Magistrate at Milimani Law Courts, Martha Ninzushi found Mugo guilty of three counts and sentenced him to three years in prison or a fine of Ksh 1.4 million.

On 21st November 2022, Mugo was once again found guilty of 9 counts out of the 12 counts that he had been charged with. Some of the charges that he was found guilty of include operating a pharmacy, medical clinic and medical laboratory without having the requisite registration licenses and also operating as a nurse, doctor and lab technologist without having registered with the certification bodies.

Mugo was sentenced to 33 years in jail but will only serve 29 years. This is because he has already stayed in prison for 3 years now.
