Eunice Wanjiru and her daughter Esther Nyambura became talk of the country after pictures of them with President Uhuru Kenyatta emerged on social media a few days ago.
On that day, the two left their home very early in the morning to go fetch firewood in Kieni Forest located in Gatundu North. After fetching their first batch, they dropped it half way to go fetch the second batch. Throughout the morning even before meeting the President, they were joyous.
On their way back, at Gakoe Water Sanitation Plant, they met a man they thought was a guard standing at the gate. The man asked Eunice Wanjiru whether she had the gate’s keys, fortunately the gate was not locked so she opened it for him.
Accidentally, President Uhuru Kenyatta mask slipped off and Esther Nyambura happened to know him though she could not tell her mother because the President was still in their proximity and he could have heard them conversing.
After the President moved to the furthest edge of the water sanitation plant, the daughter told her mother that she was speaking to His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta. Eunice Wanjiru could not believe it, she dropped her panga and asked her daughter if she was sure the person she had just greeted was the President of the republic of Kenya.
One of the guards who had accompanied President Uhuru Kenyatta asked Eunice Wanjiru jokingly on who will jail the president for trespassing the water sanitation plant.
While at the sanitation plant, President Uhuru Kenyatta told Eunice Wanjiru not leave as he could see her off. Eunice and her daughter Esther were, however, unable to tell the President their needs but they told him how they were joyous to meet him for the first time face to face.
Eunice Wanjiru is now requesting the President to help them with cattle for her to be in position to take care of daughter’s two children.
