In a push to have a party that resonates with the people, Meru County Governor Kiraitu Murungi in partnership with several other Mt Kenya east leaders have rebranded Restore and Build Kenya Party to Devolution Empowerment Party.
The restore and build Kenya party was previously used by Prof James Ole Kiyapi to vie for presidency against Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013. Prior to his 2013 candidature, Ole Kiyapi was the Principal Secretary for education in Kibaki’s regime.
On a Facebook post by Lenny Kivuti, the former Embu County Governor seat aspirant alleged that the bus is back.
“The bus is back; By God’s grace we look forward to building a strong national vehicle that empowers devolution across the country. Bus, Power to the people.” He posted.
A gazette notice by Office of the Registrar of Political Parties filed a notice indicating change of names, party symbol and dominant party colors.
The party dominant colors have been changed from Green, Gold and Sky Blue to Green, Black and Gold while the party symbol has been changed from rising shine to a bus.
Rebranding of the party has come days after other Mt Kenya leaders have launched their parties. Recently Moses Kuria launched Chama Cha Kazi, William Kabogo launched Tujibebe Party, Mwangi Kiunjuri launched The Service Party and Peter Gatirau Munya rebranded Party of National Unity.
Deputy President William Ruto has however, rebranded these parties as ethnic parties which want to take Kenya back to the ethnic politics.
In several instances, the Dp has categorically stated that he won’t form coalitions with tribal parties putting him in bad blood with TSP and CCK party leaders.
