Nyeri teacher found in a concrete coffin covered with a plywood in a rental house in Ihurura, Tetu Nyeri County.

Shocked has engulfed Ihurura village in Tetu, Nyeri County following discovery of lab technician who was last seen on 19th December 2022.

The man’s decomposing body was found in his rented house inside a coffin that was made of concrete and covered with plywood.

The discovery was made after his mother visited where he used to leave to enquire about his where about since he had not visited them for Christmas holiday and his phone was not going through.

His landlord reported the matter of a missing person to police and investigations to find his where about commenced.

A few days later, neighbors from the rented house started noticing a foul smell from the house and reported the matter to the police.

Police responded to the distress call from the neighbors and broke into the teacher’s rented house, they found a concrete coffin with a plywood cover. The missing teacher was lying inside with some chemicals for preserving his body.

A flag with unreadable writings and symbols was also found near the coffin creating suspicion that the deceased had joined a cult.

His friends described him as a friendly but reserved person who loved politics but never allowed his friends to visit him at his house. He used to meet his friends for political debates at Ihurura shopping centre.

Mr Joseph Gathogo did not also have a known partner or girlfriend till the time of his death.

His colleague narrated how at one point he was the patron of Catholic action at Muhoya Secondary School before he resigned.
