Somalians are getting high by inhaling Topinoma Sessile commonly ant as odorous house ant, sugar ant or stink ant vapor.
Speaking to the local media, one of the Somalia security officers said that people are boiling the ants and inhaling the steam for them to get high instantly.
The State has now classified the ant as a drug and outlawed its use in Somalia.
Topinoma Sessile ants are said to contain folic acid which is also present in bee sting,
Folic acid is used as a preservative and is also used as an antibacterial in livestock feeds. If inhaled, the organic acid can cause nausea, dizziness and vomiting.
Birds which prey on the Topinoma Sessile ants allegedly get high. It is suspected Somalians learnt the art of using the ants as a drug from the birds which prey on the ants.
