A case that was vacated a couple of years ago involving the deputy president and journalist Joshua Arap Sang is on it’s way back after International Criminal Court Pretrial Court gave a nod for full trial of Lawyer Paul Gicheru who is accused of witness interference.
Paul Gicheru was ICC witnesses lawyer before he allegedly joined hands with Joshua Arap Sang and the Deputy President to erase evidence through bribing and elimination of witnesses who declined to be bribed.
Frustrated prosecutor vacated the case of the two who were facing gravious charges after witnesses recanted their evidence while others disappeared mysterious only to be found dead while others have never been found to date.
In 2015, ICC gave an order of Gicheru extradition but Kenyan High Court Judge quashed the extradition orders. Then, the lawyer was being sort for witness interference together with lawyer Philip Kipkoech Bett.
Five years later on November 2020, Paul Gicheru surprised the universe by willingly offering himself to Internation Criminal Court to face witness interference trials.
Mr Gicheru is being charged among other individuals who are still being sort up to date by the court. Among them are; Mr Mayo of Amaco Insurance, Mr Bett, Mr Yebei and Mr Baraza who were accomplices in witness interference.
The prosecution side seeks to reveal the evidence on witness interference in which William Ruto is mentioned adversely as the beneficiary. Those accused on the common plan of witness interference are divided into two, the managers and the interference. The managers are said to have enjoyed numerous benefits including having meetings with William Ruto.
Another person mentioned adversely in the evidence acquired by the prosecution is one Mr Simatwo. He is alleged to be the one handling finances in the common plan. Sima two was also the head of African Merchant Insurance Company which William Ruto was a shareholder.
Paul Gicheru, in company of other individuals are said to have met several witnesses and promised them money amounting to millions and properties while those that declined disappeared mysteriously.
As the case goes to another level, Ruto’s freedom will be pegged on whether Paul Gicheru is found guilty or not. If he is found guilty, he will be jailed for a maximum of five years and in return, William Ruto and Joshua Arap Sang cases will be opened.
