BACKGROUND
Geoffrey Rigathi Gachagua is a Kenyan politician who is currently serving as a first term deputy president 2022-2027, since 13th September 2022. Rigathi Gachagua was born on 28th February 1965. He was born to late Nahashon Gachagua and the late Martha Kirigo in Hiriga village ,Mathira constituency, Nyeri county.
EDUCATION
He enrolled at Kabiruini primary school in the year 1971 to 1977, and proceeded to Kianyaga high school where he did his O-levels and A-levels. He joined University of Nairobi in 1985 where he graduated with Bachelor of Arts Degree; political science and Literature . At university of Nairobi he was the Nyeri district University Students Association leader as well as the chairman of the Association of Literature students. He underwent paramilitary training at Administration police institute in 1990. He later joined Kenya school of government where he did Public Administration course between 1999-2000.
CAREER LIFE
Rigathi Gachagua was posted in the office of president Arap Moi as a District officer cadet in 1990.
He served as an assistant secretary in the ministry of home affairs and National Heritage to the late Davidson Ngibuini in 1991.
He served as the personal assistant to the head of civil service professor Ndithi in 1992. Between 1993-2001, he served as a District officer (DO) in Kirinyaga, Kiambu, Kakamega, Wajir and LaikipiaHe resigned from office and ventured into business, establishing the Ridor Group of companies.
From 2001-2006, Gachagua served as a Personal Assistant to Uhuru Kenyatta when he was the minister of local government.
FAMILY
Gachagua is married to pastor Dorcas Gachagua with whom they have two sons, Kelvin Rigathi being the first born and Keith Keino.
POLICAL CAREER
Mr. Gachagua was elected as the member of parliament, Mathira constituency between 2017-2022. He was elected as the Deputy president of Kenya on 13th of September 2022.
