Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has openly disagreed with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s recent remarks concerning leadership issues among Mt. Kenya leaders. This disagreement arose after a viral post in which DP Gachagua addressed concerns about a potential rift among Mt. Kenya leaders, suggesting that those with issues should directly approach him. Gachagua stated, “If there are issues, let Martha Karua and Jeremiah Kioni come and talk to me, because there’s an office of the deputy president.”
CS Kuria, during an interview on Citizen TV on Thursday, May 16, strongly disagreed with this approach. “I never want to hide. I don’t agree with him. If Martha Karua calls me to her house, I’ll go. Or Jeremiah Kioni. They don’t have to come to me. Solutions of this country have no forwarding address, that if you got a problem pelekea nanii. You can’t tell me that if I find a problem, I come to you. Who are you?” Kuria expressed.
When questioned about the ‘one man, one vote, one shilling’ revenue allocation pattern championed by DP Gachagua, Kuria said he believes in the power held by current Mt. Kenya leaders to effect change. “As a minister, as a deputy president, people of the mountain, we have power. Now what are we asking common mwananchi to do? We have all the capacity to solve this issue. Now who are we telling the issues? I think he is hypocritical,” Kuria stated.
This public display of disagreement comes as tensions are being witnessed within the leadership of Mt. Kenya region.
