Standard Media Group Journalist Laban Onserio to spend Christmas weekend behind bars after anti terror court gave orders to detain him for an additional three days.
The former Presidential Delivery Unit Director was arrested on 18th December 2022 after he was found in possession of Stun grenade which is mostly used by military officers to disorient their target and facilitate an easy operation.
Laban Onserio had failed to declare possession of the stun grenade and upon detection by Holy Family Basillica church security officers, he threatened to detonate the grenade prompting them to make a distress call to the anti-terror police unit.
He was charged in Kahawa Law Courts on Monday 19th December 2022 and orders to detain him for five days were issued to give room to the investigative agencies to conduct their investigations.
Standard Media Group where Laban Onserio is the current Chief of Staff issued a statement highlighting their commitment towards ensuring a safe and secure environment for Kenyans. The media company also promised to make an informed decision when they receive the investigation report.
The Kahawa anti court ordered further detaining of the Standard Media Group Chief of Staff for an additional three days.
The court also ordered the anti-terror police who are still holding Laban Onserio to release him any time before Thursday 29th December if they have to charges to charge him with.
Police officers are also at liberty of releasing the journalist on bond pending hearing of his case.
