Kikuyu radio presenter and artist, Muthee Kiengei wa Watoria alias Guka wa Nairobi, is under criticism for defending musicians who failed to turn up for gospel musician, Dennis Mutara, father’s burial.
Dennis Mutara buried his diseased father in a low-key burial in their family land in Muranga County where only two musicians showed up to grieve with him. The rest of the musicians were nowhere to be seen.
Kenyans, especially those from the Mt Kenya region were angered by the musicians and questioned why they would let down their own during such a time.
This did not go well with Muthee Kiengei Watoria and Karungu Muraya. The two wrote a series of Facebook posts accusing Dennis Mutara of being a lone ranger and not being in good terms with other Kikuyu musicians and celebrities. They also bashed their followers for criticizing them without considering their side of the story.
Kiengei wrote on Facebook, “musicians and radio presenter fans should know that I always speak the truth and the only favour I need in this world is God’s favour. I want to warn and categorically bloggers especially those who have been mud-sliding musicians and presenters… You should know that musicians and presenters create content to entertain you and not poke holes in their life… Spare us your pretence, you too are sinners and some of the things that you do would not be appealing to us on social media platforms”, Kiengei wrote.
Pastor Ben also narrated on his Facebook post how they fundraised for Dennis Mutara at Bluesprings hotel and asked Dennis Mutara fans why they failed to follow up on after the Bluesprings hotel fundraiser.
“We picked Mutara and fundraised for him intending to bring him back to the gospel industry and you were all happy but you never followed what happened after the fundraiser at Bluesprings Hotel. Now you are insulting musicians and presenters accusing them of being inhumane and not being honest”, Kiengei wrote.
Muthee Kiengei wa Watoria also mentioned all the musicians and presenters who have lost their relatives recently including Njogu wa Njoroge, Gathuki Mundu, Julia Lucy, Wanjiku wa Ngure and Ben Githae, then asked his followers to show him a single photo of Dennis Mutara mourning with other musicians.
In another Facebook post, Muthee Kiengei advised his followers not to be like Dennis Mutura who failed to create a network. Kiengei urged his followers who are mainly Kikuyus to invest in their friends and their friends will invest in them in their time of need.
His Facebook post did settle well with the majority of his followers and he was forced to delete them.
Social media personality and Mugithi enthusiast Lucy Paps questioned why Muthee Kiengei wa Watoria and other gospel musicians failed to help Dennis Mutara bury his father.
Goodman Albright alias Vava Mutheru Pope accused Kiengei of being childish and uncultured. He advised him to stick to being a radio presenter or else get a manager to run his other activities.
Musician and MC Karangu Muraya wrote a motivational quote on his Facebook page encouraging followers to stay away from people who disappear when you need them and reappear when they need you. A section of his followers translated this as an attack on Dennis Mutara who had just buried his father.
