Former Iran Deputy defence minister sentenced to death and executed for spying on his country for Britain.
Alireza Akbari was executed on Saturday after we he was sentenced to death by the Iranian Judiciary.
Akbari had been found guilty of corruption on earth and extensive actions against his country’s internal and external security.
In a report released to the media, the former Iranian government official was being accused of carrying out espionage against Iran for MI6 and receiving a huge salary from the British Intelligence Bureau in foreign currency.
Akbari who was the Defence Deputy Minister during former President Mohammad Khatami between 1997 and 2005 spied on Iran for MI6 on the country’s defense secrets, missiles, sanctions and nuclear weapon development.
His actions were said to be against the National Security of a Country that he served as a deputy minister for defense in the cabinet. This was evidenced through his communication with the MI6 intelligence bureau and several meetings through which met the bureau officials in different countries.
The Iranian authorities alleged that Alireza Akbari was recruited by MI6 as he procured a Visa from a British Embassy and with time he became an employee of the agency.
One of the cases of espionage that Akbari was being accused of is that of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, a nuclear scientist who was helping Iran develop nuclear weapons.
Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was assassinated as he was driving by a remotely controlled gun. Iran authorities blamed Israel intelligence body, Mosad, before it emerged that he was assassinated by MI6. Akbari confessed to having been approached British Intelligence asking for information about the nuclear scientist.
