Fire Incident Kills 10, Five Adults & Five Minors
An early morning fire incident in Lyon France has left five adults and five minors dead sending the entire France into mourning.
The fire incident happened in a building with several stories in Vaulx en Velin is said to have started on the ground floor before spreading to other floors.
Apart from the ten who were killed by the fire, 14 others are said to have been injured and are admitted in hospital where they are receiving treatment.
Fire Fighters who rushed to the scene confirmed that they had a hard time evacuating residents from the building as the smoke had spread in all fire exit ways and residents had to leave the building through windows with help of ladders. The smoke also made it difficult for the firefighters to reach out to the victims.
France Interior Minister, Gerald Darmanin, confirmed that indeed the fire incident had killed ten people, five of them being minors aged three to fifteen years. He also appreciated the efforts by firefighters to save as many lives as in the gruelling fire incident.
One of the local media outlets reported that about 170 firefighters had arrived at the building to stop the fire from spreading and save the lives of those who were trapped inside.
At the time of response by the firefighters, the fire whose source is yet to be established had to spread to at least the top three floors of the building.
Witnesses within the vicinity of the incident claimed that they heard people asking for help from the building. Some of those who were begging for help had their close family members trapped in the building and they had no way of rescuing them.
Firefighters took about three hours from 3:00 AM to 6:00 AM to completely put the fire off. The matter regarding this fire incident is now under investigation.
